The Pathogen Data Network welcomes Eneida Hatcher as its new Director. Joining from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), she brings extensive experience in pathogen data resources, standards and international collaboration — including through cooperation with the Bacterial and Viral Bioinformatics Resource Center (BV-BRC), a key partner in the broader NIAID ecosystem. Her appointment will help advance PDN’s mission to connect and unlock pathogen data by strengthening collaboration across resources, communities and infrastructures worldwide.
Advancing a connected pathogen data ecosystem
Under Eneida’s leadership, PDN will continue to advance interoperability, community-driven best practices and international collaboration, helping researchers and other stakeholders navigate and benefit from an increasingly connected pathogen data ecosystem.
“I am excited to join the Pathogen Data Network at a time when collaboration and interoperability are more important than ever. PDN brings together the expertise, resources and communities needed to unlock the full value of pathogen data and support research worldwide.” Eneida Hatcher, PDN Director, SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
The PDN consortium extends its gratitude to Aitana Neves for her leadership and dedication to the project, and to Christophe Dessimoz for ensuring a smooth leadership transition while maintaining momentum across PDN activities.
Bringing expertise in pathogen data and community building
Hatcher joins PDN as part of her appointment as Director of SIB’s Centre for Pathogen Bioinformatics. With more than a decade of experience developing pathogen data resources, standards and collaborations, she brings extensive expertise in connecting data, tools and communities across the global pathogen data ecosystem. Read more about her appointment and role at SIB.
Prior to joining SIB, she led major pathogen data initiatives at the NIH and worked closely with the Bacterial and Viral Bioinformatics Resource Center (BV-BRC), one of the three Bioinformatics Resource Centers within the broader NIAID ecosystem. Having collaborated across these interconnected initiatives, she brings valuable experience in building partnerships, aligning resources and supporting the communities that PDN connects today.
